Black Brazil Art Opens Applications for 2025 Residency Program
Black Brazil Art Launches 5th Virtual Residency: “Decolonizing the Five Skins”
Black Brazil Art has opened applications for its 5th Virtual Artistic Residency, running from April 15 to May 25, 2025. With the theme “Decolonizing the Five Skins”, this global program promotes decolonial artistic practices and offers two flexible participation formats: a collective residency and individual mentorship.
Program Options
- Residency Program: A shared experience with weekly online sessions, workshops, lectures, and group projects. Fee: R$150.
- Individual Mentorship: Personalized guidance for project-based development with a curatorial focus. Fee: R$600.
Decolonizing Through Art: Five Conceptual Axes
The program draws from Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s theory of the five skins, reinterpreted through a decolonial lens:
- Skin (epidermis): Exploring identity, ancestry, gender, and race through the body as boundary.
- Clothing (body): Reflecting on cultural expression, performativity, and dissident corporealities.
- Home (space): Investigating memory, resistance, territory, and migratory experiences.
- Social Environment: Engaging with collective identities and cultural dynamics.
- Global Environment: Addressing planetary interconnectedness and environmental justice.
Program Structure and Outcomes
Sessions are held on Saturdays via Zoom or Google Meet. The residency culminates in a virtual exhibition and contributes to the forthcoming Black Biennial 2026. Spaces are limited and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
