Tope Alawaye
Born and raised in Nigeria, Tope Alawaye is a young visual artist whose work already transcends his years. At just 22, Alawaye creates with the spirit of someone who has lived many lives - a presence often described as that of an old soul. His canvases are steeped in memory, intimacy, and cultural reverence, offering tender yet striking tributes to Black identity and heritage.
His figurative and mixed-media works often draw from the visual language of the 1960s and 1970s - bell-bottom trousers, vinyl records, and soft, analog hues that echo the quiet nostalgia of family albums and golden-era gatherings. Through this lens, Tope celebrates Black beauty, joy, and cultural legacy, while weaving personal emotion into collective memory.
Despite his youth, Alawaye’s work speaks with remarkable depth, inviting viewers to not only look, but to remember - and to feel.
