Morakinyo Femi

Nigeria

"Through his richly layered paintings, Morakinyo Femi weaves together nostalgia, cultural memory, and visual storytelling. Drawing on his love for vintage aesthetics, he fuses antique objects into everyday scenes - sometimes in dramatic, sometimes in humorous ways - creating compositions that are both emotionally resonant and visually striking.

His technique is as eclectic as his inspirations: a synthesis of acrylics, oils, charcoal, and pastels, allowing for a textured and evocative language that brings each scene to life.

At the heart of Femi’s practice lies a deep engagement with sociocultural issues - particularly those related to gender, heritage, and the urgent need for cultural and historical preservation. Works like Kindergarten, Association Day, Unknown Soldier, and Better Days Ahead reflect his ongoing exploration of these themes, inviting viewers to reflect on the layers of identity and collective memory that shape contemporary life.

Femi's art is an invitation - not only to look, but to remember, question, and feel.

Morakinyo Femi

Morakinyo Femi is a Nigerian visual artist, born in 1984 in Akure, Ondo State. His early exposure to visual language came through the stamps collected by his father, a banker, which would later become a significant source of inspiration in his artistic style.

During his childhood, Femi also lived briefly with his grandmother, a collector of old textiles, hand-painted aluminum pans, and other vintage items. These objects - rich in history and visual texture - captivated his imagination and led him to spend hours drawing them, planting the seeds for what would become a lifelong artistic journey.

Femi holds a degree in Fine Art from Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, where he majored in painting. Alongside his personal practice, he works as a Senior Art Director at a leading digital advertising agency in Lagos, contributing across fields such as motion graphics, illustration, and design.
