Kofi Amoateng

Kofi Amoateng (b. 1991) is a contemporary figurative artist based in Jamestown, Accra, Ghana. Renowned for his distinctive style, he utilizes charcoal to create bold strokes that capture the essence of his subjects' skin. Drawing inspiration from his own skin color, Amoateng imbues his work with a textured quality, symbolizing the scars of pain and healing experienced by Black people.

In his compositions, charcoal is balanced with the use of oil and acrylic paints, employing simple colors to convey the emotional depth of his figures, including expressions of Black joy. Through his art, Amoateng encourages viewers to engage in introspection, inviting them to explore their own emotions and experiences.
